SEMERGEN AND ESTEVE JOIN FORCES TO CREATE A GUIDE TO THE MOST RIGOROUS AND USEFUL APPS IN PRIMARY CARE

The SEMERGEN Medical Apps Guide is a free application offering a selection of high-quality healthcare apps to meet doctors' key needs.

As well as helping doctors to keep abreast of scientific knowledge, it allows them to carry out online consultations that assist them in the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of their patients.

The contents of this guide, which is backed by SEMERGEN and created by leading experts in the speciality, will be updated regularly.

Ninety per cent 1 of GPs currently use mobile healthcare applications (apps) in their daily clinical work. However, it is sometimes difficult to know which are most rigorous from the scientific point of view and which will actually be most useful in their day-to-day work. For this reason, the Spanish Society of Primary Care Doctors (SEMERGEN), in collaboration with ESTEVE, has developed the free application SEMERGEN Medical Apps Guide, which will be presented at the 36th National SEMERGEN Congress.

The purpose of this guide is to offer GPs a selection of healthcare applications that are of interest in their speciality, which have been chosen on the basis of their quality, scientific rigour and the reliability of their sources of information, as well as their usefulness in everyday practice and their ease of use.

The SEMERGEN Medical Apps Guide allows primary care providers and GPs to keep abreast of scientific knowledge and carry out online consultations to assist them in the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of their patients in daily clinical practice. It is also worth noting that the apps in the SEMERGEN Medical Apps Guide may also be of interest to patients with experience in using new technologies.

The selection of apps is backed by the Spanish Society of Primary Care Doctors (SEMERGEN) and has been developed by leading experts in this speciality: Dr Federico Pérez, Specialist in Family and Community Medicine, GP at the Centro de Especialidades Médicas de Soto (Madrid), SEMERGEN's Head of Development and Internet Dissemination, Clinical Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine of Universidad Alcalá de Henares; and Dr Daniel Rey, Specialist in Family and Community Medicine of the Santiago de Compostela Teaching Unit.

The SEMERGEN Medical Apps Guide includes a list of the different categories where into which the selected apps are classified, with a short explanation and comments. The editors also rate the usability and usefulness of the selected app.
