Dr. Plata holds a M.D. degree from the Univ. of Guadalajara Medical School in México, and a D.Sc. degree in Medical Sciences from Kyushu Univ. Faculty of Medicine in Japan.


He began his career in academia in the United States, where he was promoted through the ranks to tenured full professor of neuroscience and molecular biology. His career continued in industry, first at Johnson & Johnson in the United States as Head of Discovery Unit and Core Member of the Executive Neuroscience Franchise and Global Neurology, Psychiatry and Pain Product Teams (he received the Standards of Leadership Award). At Eli Lilly and Co. in the United States, he designed, implemented and led a new worldwide organization that had among its responsibilities the due diligence of internal Lilly projects and external opportunities (molecules, technologies, companies) across all therapeutic areas and at any stage of development.


He is the author of 380 publications and inventor involved in 200 patents and patent applications worldwide. He is recipient of various research recognitions, first-class honors for clinical work, and was invited to present at a Nobel Conference in Stockholm sponsored by the Nobel Foundation.


He has been Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Medical Officer at ESTEVE since 2008.
